Skoda Octavia Scout set for July launch
The new Skoda Octavia Scout is about to go on sale. Modelled off the fourth generation Octavia, it’s an estate car – but one with a difference. Unlike other estates, this one is off-road inspired. It’s as well suited to a trip up the M1 as it is for the Strata Florida.
A number of features have been added to make the Scout more off-road capable. These include a 15mm taller ride height and underbody protection panels to protect the underneath of the car from knocks and bumps. In addition to this, LED fog lights and silver roof rails come as standard.
Several aesthetic features also help to give the Skoda Octavia Scout a more muscular appearance. The black plastic body cladding on the wheel arches, side skirts and doors provide a beefier feel. The front and rear bumpers have also been altered to make the car feel tougher and the wheels have been adorned with a fresh set of 18-inch alloys
Buyers of the new Scout are being given the choice of five different engine types. These include three diesel options and two petrol options.
Those that opt for diesel have a choice of three 2.0 litre four-cylinder units: one 113bhp, one 148bhp and another packing 197bhp. The latter two are four-wheel drive and each option is turbocharged.
For those drivers that prefer petrol, the two options include a 187bhp 2.0 litre engine and a 148bhp 1.5 litre engine (the latter option can come with a seven-speed automatic gearbox and mild-hybrid assistance).
The plush interior of the Octavia is pretty similar to fourth-generation Octavia. It’s got a 10 inch touchscreen infotainment system that’s simple to use. An aluminium pedal box and Scout branding are the main changes.
This is a car that’s perfect family road trips and off-road adventures alike. It’s got the comfort and luggage space of an estate and the hardiness of a SUV. In fact, it serves well as an affordable alternative to an SUV without being quite as bulky.
Skoda Octavias have long been one of the most popular and loved Skoda models, largely because they’re ideal family cars, while possessing a sporty edge that separates them from competitors. Octavias are revered for being well-built and reliable. They’re also incredibly safe cars, sporting a five-star NCAP rating. This includes variants such as the Scout.
