New Skoda Octavia vRS Will be a PHEV
The new powerful Skoda Octavia vRS arrives at Geneva Motor Show 2020 and this time it will be a plug-in hybrid for the first time ever. It’s due in all showrooms in the autumn and prices are expected to start around £32,000.
Ahead of its debut at the Geneva Motor Show 2020, we have been teased with the new Skoda Octavia vRS in official sketches. It’s well prepared and set up to go against high ranking competitive hot hatchbacks such as the Ford Focus ST, Volkswagen Golf GTI, and the Hyundai i30 N. It’s going to be showcasing a plug-in hybrid powertrain for the first time. It’s expected to hit showrooms and go on sale in the autumn, considering the major change the price is only expected to slightly rise above the current model.
The model is going to take after the Octavia vRS and adopt a more aggressive look than the current standard 2020 Skoda Octavia. You can expect to find bodywork upgrades and black touches which means it’s going to have a much sportier look than the entry-level models. Just as before you will have the choice between the estate or hatchback body styles.
A few months back, undercover photographers managed to capture shots of the next Octavia vRS, despite the camouflage wrap that was surrounding the car it was clear that it is going to have a much sharper and neater look than its predecessor. Borrowed from the Skoda Superb, the large Skoda grille is complimented by slimmer headlights which are fully LED, but you wouldn’t expect anything less from a top of the range model. It appears that Skoda has reverted back to one-piece headlight which is lower down and sharper in style. There is also going to be bigger air intakes and a much pointier bumper than the standard car.
It’s nice to see that the estate version of the Octavia vRS has retained its much-loved practical shape, with the added feature of alloys wheel for a sportier look. The back is going to feature a much sharper-looking tailgate which will include new creases and some tail-light clusters. There is also two large exhaust finishers and a big roof spoiler added on the vRS performance model. You will have a choice of colours with the production version, some will be vRS-specific.
Inside you will find very similar features to the current vRS, it will have sports seats, aluminium pedals, red accents and a flat-bottomed steering wheel. It’s possible that there might be two versions to choose from. The standard vRS and the vRS Challenge. The Challenge will include extras such as chassis control, Alcantara suede-like fabric upholstery and heated seats.
Although the Skoda Octavia vRS will be priced in mind to rival the Ford Focus ST and Volkswagen Golf GTI, you will find that it is more practical and bigger than both of these cars. When looking at space it will again rival the Mazda 6, Volkswagen Passat and the Ford Mondeo.
